A study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Therapy in March found that a combination of Bactrim and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole was an effective treatment for moderate-to-severe urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli. Food and Drug Administration and included 12,306 patients, including 4,067 patients who had been treated for an uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI).
