Alternate Name:Bactrim
Description:Bactrim is a prescription drug treatment for men who have difficulty swallowing pills. Bactrim is most commonly used as a single prescription drug in combination with a dextrofosamil. However, Bactrim may also be used as a dosing option. The recommended dose of Bactrim is 15 mg, but the dose may be increased to a maximum of 30 mg. The maximum recommended dosing frequency is once per day. Bactrim may also be given with food.
Dosage:Each tablet can be taken with or without food. The dosage can be adjusted in the patient's response to the medication. The maximum daily dose is 60 mg. Bactrim is usually taken once per day. However, the treatment should be extended in a manner that will produce a lightening effect. Some elderly patients may be recommended to take the drug several weeks before the attempted dose. The elderly can be prescribed Bactrim until the dose is identified and the drug is fully eliminated. If the drug is not eliminated, the dose can be adjusted in a manner that will produce a complete lightening of the effect. Patients may be prescribed a different dosage to be consistent with their clinical condition. Extended dosing is not recommended in patients with a history of seizures or other drug-related causes of an enlarged prostate. The dose can be adjusted in the patient's response to the medication. In some cases, the patient may be prescribed Bactrim until the dose is eliminated. In these cases, the dose should be gradually increased to produce a lightening effect. Bactrim should not be given to children or teenagers who are also taking medications that they can no longer tolerate. Bactrim is not recommended for use in patients with a known allergy to Bactrim or sulfa drugs. Bactrim should not be used in combination with another antifungal drug.
Dosage Limit:The maximum daily dose of Bactrim for patients with a known allergy to sulfa drugs or any component of the product should be based on the maximum daily dose of the drug and not the dose of the antifungal drug. Bactrim should be used with caution in patients with a known allergy to sulfa drugs or any component of the product. When Bactrim is prescribed, the following precautions are recommended: The tablet should be swallowed whole. Do not split, chew, or crush the tablet. Patients should receive the tablet as directed by their physician, and a break of at least 4 hours or a single tablet should be provided between doses. Bactrim is usually taken once a day with food.
Important Note:The dose of Bactrim should not be adjusted in patients with a history of seizures or other drug-related causes of enlarged prostate. Bactrim should not be used for extended periods in patients with a known allergy to sulfa drugs or any component of the product. When Bactrim is used for dosing, the recommended dosing frequency is once per day. If the patient is dosed consistently over a longer period of time, the dose can be adjusted in a manner that will result in a lightening effect. Patients should be advised to report any changes in their condition to their physician.
This medication is available without a prescription by qualified health care professional. Bactrim and other antifungal medications may interact with each other and cause serious side effects.
